Christmas

I see the sign of thunder
Don’t make that sound, too loud!
floating outside my window
You have to be quiet now, daddy
in pitch darkness like a curse
Sit in the chair, help me clean up
that strikes: change your life
I love my grown-ups

You see the sign of thunder
One last book — you pick which one
floating, as all signs do, untethered
Time for bed now, I’ll turn out the light
with nothing for a curse to cling to
Tomorrow we wake up, have breakfast
because you’re all change, already struck
And go to Christmas
